Music is basic to the human, educational, and spiritual experience. Knowledge of music fundamentals allows students to develop aesthetic sensitivity, self-expression, and creativity. Our music education program also supports and leads students to a fuller participation in liturgy and worship. Music encourages students to build community, to develop global understanding, and to celebrate life.
Music has played an integral role in all recorded history and cultures. Humans continue to create and use music as a unique, powerful expression of their thoughts and feelings. In the development of the whole person, music contributes to the discipline of learning, fosters aesthetic sensitivity and culturally enriches each person's life.
Music education moves students from fundamental levels of knowledge to the highest thinking skills. Students understand and experience music to develop the critical skills of identifying, listening, reading, scribing, performing, analyzing, creating and assessing. A wide variety of aesthetic and cognitive experiences are provided in our classroom music program. Additional electives listed below allow for concentrated and intensive study of specific topics and interests in music.
