Are You Our Next Girls on the Run Coach?

Are you our next Girls on the Run coach? – by Laurie Taylor

Are you contemplating being a coach for Girls on the Run (GOTR)? If so, I can tell you that was exactly where I was a year ago. Would I be able to commit the time, know what I was doing and connect with the girls? I decided to take a stop into the unknown, give it a try and say YES! I worked with 3 other coaches and a group of 19 girls. What I ended getting out of GOTR was more than I every imagined! GOTR is a fantastic organization that provided all of the training, resources, and materials. Each lesson was clearly spelled out and so each 90 minute session flew by while we had both fun and exercise. One of the highlights for me was watching 19 girls along with their adult “running buddies” cross the finish line beaming and smiling at the 5K in November. They were so proud of their achievement. In the process I was able to get to know these amazing girls and watch them blossom.

If you are on the fence about coaching I would highly encourage it – I promise you won’t regret it. The time commitment is two 90 minute sessions a week beginning in September and ending with the final 5K on a Saturday in early November.  Prep time for each session is an additional 30 minute meeting with the other coaches. The GOTR organization does require and provide some coach training and background checks a their headquarters.
